What Is a Basic Christian Community?
A Basic Christian Community (BCC) is a small group of Catholic faithful — typically neighbours — who come together regularly in someone's home to pray, read and reflect on the scriptures, share their faith, and support one another in living out the Gospel.
BCCs are the living cells of the parish. They bring the Church out of the building and into the streets, homes, and daily lives of parishioners. In every BCC, the community becomes the Church in miniature — worshipping, evangelising, and serving together.
At St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Akute, our BCCs meet every Wednesday at 6:00pm, gathering across 15 communities spread throughout Akute, Ajuwon, Ishasi, Oyeyemi, Pipeline, and surrounding areas.

Community & Belonging
BCCs create a sense of belonging in a large parish, ensuring no one is a stranger. Your neighbours become your spiritual family.
Scripture & Formation
Each gathering centres on the Word of God — reading, reflecting, and applying scripture to everyday life and real challenges.
Prayer & Intercession
Members pray for one another's needs, families, and intentions — becoming a powerful network of intercession within the parish.
Every Wednesday · 6:00pm
All BCCs across St. Alphonsus Parish gather simultaneously every Wednesday evening at their designated meeting locations.
Hosted in Homes
Meetings rotate through members' homes — making the host's home a place of grace, hospitality, and the presence of Christ.

Gather
Members meet at the host's home every Wednesday at 6pm — neighbours coming together as a spiritual family.
Open in Prayer
The meeting begins with an opening prayer, invoking the Holy Spirit to guide the gathering and bless the members.
Read & Reflect
A scripture passage is read aloud and each member is invited to share what it means for their daily life.
Share & Support
Members share personal needs, joys, and challenges — praying for one another and offering practical support.
